How long does it take to set up a free trial?

It's the same story as with the actual implementation, and the answer is the classic one that nobody likes to hear: 'it depends'. There are many factors that influence the effort required to get you on your free trial, and it all depends on your expectations of the trial. While some may be up and running in a few hours, it takes others weeks or longer to get their ducks in a row and agree on the way forward.

If you want to use standard Dime.Scheduler with standard Business Central and don't have any special requirements, we can get you up and running in about two working days. It could be less if no unexpected issues arise and everybody has come extremely well prepared, but it might as well be more when there's even the slightest hickup.

Here's how a typical trial setup would like look like when Dime Software is involved:

  • Kick-off meeting with all parties concerned to put everything on the table: topics vary from high-level objectives to detailed questions about the current and desired planning processes. Everything that we need to know about should be discussed here and now.
  • Dime Software staff analyses the required effort for the solution, and gets back to the customer with an estimation.
  • Customer signs off or makes adjustments to the scope of the project. Repeat step 2 and 3.
  • When customer signs off, Dime Software puts the wheels in motion and organizes the sessions.
What's happens next depends entirely on what had been discussed and agreed upon before. However, to give you a sense of what happens during these sessions generally, for straightforward trials, all we need to do is:
  • Give access to the users to their new Dime.Scheduler instance.
  • Install the extension for Dime.Scheduler in Business Central.
  • Configure the extension by running the wizard and making planning data available in Dime.Scheduler.
  • Set up the message flow from Dime.Scheduler back to Business Central.
  • Train end users
If there's time left over, they can be used for additional support, training, development, configuration, or whatever is needed to make the trial a success.

Who does the implementation of a free trial or production instance?

Typically, it is your ERP partner that happens to be one of our resellers.

If they are, the answer is simple: they do. They are the ones that know your business processes best, and they are the ones that have the relationship with you. They are also the ones that have the knowledge and experience to implement Dime.Scheduler in your Business Central environment.

If they aren't, the answer is nuanced:

  • They can sign up as a reseller, complete the partner training, and then they'll be able to properly consult.
  • An alternative arrangement is that we team up with your ERP partner to implement Dime.Scheduler together. We show them the ropes, and they take it from there once you are live.
  • If your ERP partner is not interested in either of the above, we can implement Dime.Scheduler for you.

Our business model is centered around the ERP partner, so we will always try to work with them. If they are not interested, we have the resources to implement Dime.Scheduler for you.

What are the implementation costs?

This is contingent on a number of variables, that may include - but are not limited to - the following:

  • Rate of your ERP partner's services
  • Analysis, development and testing of customizations
  • Training hours
  • Setting up test environments in addition to the production environment

A ballpark figure would be 4 to 5 days to get from the initial kick-off meeting to the project sign-off.

Can we implement Dime.Scheduler without completing the partner training?

Despite having extensive documentation, tutorials, video guides, and quickstart wizards, we found that the quality of delivery is generally subpar. Dime.Scheduler is a flexible product in a complex ecosystem that requires a deep understanding of both the product and the backoffice system, and can easily be overwhelming to those who haven't done any training of our product.

Therefore, we strongly recommend that you complete the partner training before attempting to implement Dime.Scheduler in your Business Central environment. The training is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully implement Dime.Scheduler.

Alternatively, you could delegate setup and implementation to consultants at Dime Software. They're used to managing and implementing complex projects and can help you get started quickly and efficiently. This way, you can focus on your core business while we take care of the technical details.
